Partner Yoga Workshop
with Barbara Wood
Sunday, June 4th, 2:00-4:30pm
Improve your “feel” for the poses by working with a partner!
Yoga is mostly done individually. In this workshop, we will work with a partner to enhance our sense of balance, alignment, and direction.
Communicating through touch, learning to distinguish between releasing, directing energy and relaxing, we’ll explore common poses such as Adho Mukha Svanasana (Down Dog), Utthita Parsvakonasana (Side Angle) or Virabhadrasana II (Warrior II), to name a few. The experience has the potential to improve your personal practice.
Barbara Wood is a trained postmodern dancer and Yoga instructor with extensive experience in Alignment Release Technique and Contact Improvisation, two disciplines working with weight and touch.
If you don’t have a partner to bring, no worries! We’ll match you up with one in class.
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program
with Dr. Micheline Vargas
8-Week Course, held at Spiral Path Yoga Center
Saturdays: June 3-July 22, 1:00-3:30
The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Program was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., (featured on the Bill Moyers PBS special, “Healing and the Mind.”) in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. MBSR is one of the most heavily-researched mindfulness programs with over 30 years of studies supporting its benefits. Today, clinical research and neuroscience show us why mindfulness meditation practices are so effective, which has accelerated its use in medical centers, universities, and schools.
What to expect in an MBSR class/program:
- 8-weekly 2.5-hour classes and a 1-day retreat
- Readings, hand-outs, and other materials to support your practice (downloadable audio files)
- Guided instruction on mindfulness practices
- Gentle stretching and mindful movement
- Group dialogue and mindful communication exercises to enhance awareness
- Daily home assignments (30-45 minutes)
- Supportive environment
MBSR is for anyone that wants to create more balance, peace, and happiness in their life, including those searching for a gentle, non-judgmental way to work with stress and pain, and individuals that seek a secular research-based meditation program.
This class provides 26 continuing education credits for health professionals.
Your instructor: Dr. Micheline Vargas received her MBSR teacher training through the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). She has been practicing forms of mindfulness for 20 years. For more information, visit www.lifestyletr.com.
The class sessions will be held at Spiral Path Yoga Center on the eight Saturdays listed above (June 3-July 22), from 1:00-3:30pm.
This MBSR Course registration is through the instructor (not the studio). Contact Dr. Micheline Vargas for more information!
